Gotta Make a Getaway

Hey there,

So two opportunities have come up.

One: A short for a student at the UW, it isn't anything big it is basically an exercise for the crew to become better at the technical skills, therefor it is just a remake of a scene from a previous film. I was iffy about it because of that but I would have accepted if I could've, because it would make it more likely for me to be cast for a future work of their. However, I couldn't get off work Saturday night. Bummer.

Two: I got an audition in Chicago that I am actually really excited about. It is also on Saturday but luckily it is during the day. Yay! So i will drive down there hopefully and cross my fingers for the part because it seems like a great one. I will give more details later maybe but I don't want to jinx it just yet. I will tell you that it is a thesis film for students at NYU which makes it feel pretty legit to me, those are the people I want connections with.

So I am excited so I thought I would give a mini post on that.

Can't Stop Can't Stop It

Hello All,

I have just finished applying to about 11 internships. I think it would be amazing if I could get a good internship this summer. I am not sure how possible that is though. I am not THAT experienced, especially on the production end. I don't know. Gosh I have the jitters but thats good because I tend to accomplish things when I am like this.

Ideally I will work at an internship in LA and take some acting lessons while out there as well.

We shall see.

I have only applied to big names so far though. That could be my downfall I just don't know how to find smaller scale internships. I e-mailed Tracey and asked her to maybe help me find some.

So I will probably write more on this subject later but I am currently watching American Idol.

Would you be? I mean could you be?

Um... so

I called Tracey and we talked, that was good.
I pretty much just hung up so I am still digesting it.
I don't know how it went, it was good, we talked about working and what she does. I am really grateful to be able to talk to her. I hope that maybe we will continue to talk occasionally. I really don't know what I am doing.

So basically here is where I am:
-I have a contact in Temple Hill
-She offered to help me in search for internships and whatnot
-I think it would be ok to call her and talk with her some more

I really hope that something can come out of this but things don't happen overnight, so right now that is where I am at.

I just have so much I want to do and accomplish, I don't know what to say.

All I know is this is a good thing to have experienced and a good connection to make.

It gave me hope for longevity and it gave me a reality check on short cuts. It was good.

Just a Picture and a Feeling and a Face

Hey there,

So I did placement auditions at the UW today, which was just an audition to get into more acting classes, I auditioned for two and got into one. I wasn't really expecting to get into more than one because there is limited space so thats good.

The audition was very low pressure, I just went in and did a short monologue. I had been working on one in my current acting class so I was really comfortable with it, which is awesome.

So I am in a Vocal Technique class, which I think will just perfect the use of the voice with diction and proper breath support while acting so as not to loose your voice and to be easily understood while still being able to connect emotionally.

I was googling Unborn, the short I was in in San Diego. It turns out it was an Official Selection for Screenplay at the Beverly Hills Film Festival, which basically means it is a finalist. The festival is April 14-18, so thats exciting to say the least.

------------------------

I may talk to Tracey tonight, I am excited to talk to her and find out about her career and get an inside look at the industry.

Coming Back For More

Well Hello.

I haven't been posting on here first because I have been crazy busy and second because I have to do a little blog for my acting class already. It isn't nearly as helpful as this one but I get graded for that one and it is therefore more important I suppose.

So if anyone has any interest in my other blog here is the link:
http://maryannraemisch.tumblr.com/
It is pretty dull though, its more like I make stuff up.

Anyway.

Here I start again.

I have been working a lot and going to school.

I am in an intro to acting class. I have mixed feelings about it, at times it is interesting and at others it sucks.

The teacher is the sort of person who says "be creative make bold choices" but the second you do he tells you that you made the wrong choice. I haven't been on the receiving end of that but just listening to it all the time gets very annoying.

I am working on my Tomorrow's Wish monologue in the class and at first I was feeling very nervous and awkward with it because I just was scared of learning that I sucked. Fortunately, during my private coaching session the teacher said I was talented. He said my main problem was over-acting, which is crazy because in high school I always felt like I was too small with it in comparison to everyone else. Its nice to hear that while I went out of my natural shell and that is good, I can go back in a little and deliver lines the way I always wanted to.

I had talked myself out of feeling good about the section because a lot of kids in the class are amazing in my opinion but the people I have talked too seemed very upset with him after their private sessions.

So the final performance for my monologue is next week I believe and now we are working on scene study. I am doing a scene from Wendy Wasserstein's Uncommon Women. I am play the role of Holly in a scene where she is talking to her friends about buying a diaphragm, an awkward subject, a lot of scenes seem to be awkward when I try to find them.

---------

I went to see two shows recently.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
and
Narukami

They are nothing alike and nothing like typical shows either.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was an experience, I went to a midnight showing and everyone was dressed up and yelled things at the stage the whole time, it was fun because the things shouted were practically part of the script.

Narukami on the other hand was a Kabuki show, which is a Japanese form of theater. A lot of it has to do with the way the actors speak, they use a lot of their vocal range and movement is also very precise rather than necessarily natural.

Both were interesting and had good and bad moments, Narukami was a little slow and hard to follow while Rocky Horror was hard to hear over everyone else.
------------------

So, I am hopefully going to be in contact with a women in California who used to work as Will Smith's assistant. Now, she happens to work on the Twilight films. Small world, huh? ;)

I don't know what will come of this contact but I know what my hopes are.

I would have gotten her information sooner but she was in between the two jobs for a while and she just needed time to settle in.

So. yeah. I don't know.

Hello Again

Alright,

So the madness of the holidays has ended.

I started watching the show How I Met Your Mother and I am in love with Neil Patrick Harris. I also started watching Ugly Betty which is also awesome.

TV shows are my favorite thing to watch. Which is weird because I would mainly just like to be in films.

--------

Anyways, It was a good holiday and I actually did some film work. We did ADR on The Penny. ADR is where you go in and re-say your line trying to match it up with the footage because the audio wasn't clear enough from the day of the shoot. It went really well I had three lines to say and was done in about 30 min. I was pretty proud of myself :) I had been terrified that I wouldn't be able to sync up the lines.

--------

Also,

I got into the UW! Which I was not expecting seeing as I applied 2 months past the deadline. I haven't been able to sign up for classes yet, which is crazy as the semester starts really soon...

I can't focus on writing right now but oh well, I will write more later.

Kicks

I am supposed to be studying for my two finals tomorrow, but you had to know that wouldn't happen.
Instead I wrote something... It will become a song once I learn how to play guitar haha, as of right now when I am stranded and guitarless I guess it is just a poem.

This is about one of my best friends, though not really. I would always stay up late and talk to him about my drama and he was a great comfort to me but meanwhile he was spiraling out of control himself and though I tried I couldn't really help him, he is a self destructive person.
So:
Kicks and...

He’s like a gentle breeze gone wrong
he wants but won’t push on
He warned I shouldn't dwell too long
On the worries in my head
“they will try to kill you” he said

And I wrote us such a story
and I hoped you felt the same
I knew you didn’t choose me
but I thought that that would change

Kicks and Giggles
and I think he dreams of skinny dipping
I told them you’re my soul mate
they told me that was strange
Insomniac
you saved me
I wish you could say the same

I liked having my hope restored
at the other end
of another long line.

I still remember his tortured dream
Until his dream became a party
and his life a twisted thing
I asked “where will you be in the next ten years?”
He says "I never felt I’d make it farther than here"

Kicks and Giggles
and I think he dreams of skinny dipping
I told them you’re my soul mate
they told me that was strange
Insomniac
you saved me
I wish you could say the same

Step back, hold on,
don’t be too lame to go for what you want
He lives at home
with his mom and his dad and stupid beer love

how long
will I wait for him
to come back to my side?
To come back to our side?

Kicks and Giggles
and I thought he dreamed of really living
I knew he was my soul mate
but now that seems so strange
Maniac
You saved me
In ways I can’t explain.

I wish that you had stayed the same
I wish that you were safe again

Kicks and Giggles
and you’ll always be my living angel

Its rough but if you knew him like I did you might get it. :) He has a nickname "Giggles" because he used to always say "for kicks and giggles" so yeah... that where that came from...
