I'll Let You Know

Hello again.

Not much has happened since my last post. I sent out to some Chi-town agents again and so I am crossing my fingers.

I am possibly going to audition for the play Jekyll and Hyde next week. I wish it was the musical though! I need to look up the characters and see who I could play.

I keep saying I will post videos and I don't end up doing it because youtube never works for me! I upload a video for about 10 hours and then right before it finishes the window closes. So hopefully it will work itself out eventually.

------------

I have to vent for just a minute because there is something driving me crazy right now. I haven't had to deal with people criticizing my career choice very much. At first my family thought it was a phase and then they did encourage me to "think about other options" but I always beat them to the punch and was able to answer questions about other work and what I expect from my career. I am not making the decision to be an actress lightly.

However, lately I have been reading letters from a certain close relative and he has been saying things as if he knows what he is talking about.

One of the biggest annoyances about choosing this career is that people assume they know all they need to about acting based on their experience watching movies and Entertainment Tonight. I don't assume I know all about the career of a preacher just because I go to church!

I honestly don't expect to make a living on acting. Unless I am one of the lucky actors I will probably work part time jobs for the first several years of my career and then get various low paying industry jobs apart from acting as the years go on. I am having my major be film studies because I want to be able to work in the business as a whole not just as a performer.

A common misconception people have is that all successful actors are "connected" but thats what networking is all about. I already have a bigger list of connections that I expected at this point. You make connections... they don't just come out of nowhere to the lucky. Some actors have gotten famous because they were connected to a big-shot but not ALL of them

Another misconception is that all successful actors are famous. That is completely untrue. A successful actor is an actor who gets work. Who goes out and does it, not for fame but for the love of acting. All famous actors are successful, not all successful actors are famous.

I know what to expect out of this business because I have been researching it since I was 12 and I actually have experience and I am the one who will decide if this is the right career for me

End Rant.

It is not always easy to diagnose. The simplest form of stupidity - the mumbling, nose-picking, stolid incomprehension - can be detected by anyone. But the stupidity which disguises itself as thought, and which talks so glibly and eloquently, indeed never stops talking, in every walk of life is not so easy to identify, because it marches under a formidable name, which few dare attack. It is called Popular Opinion...
